The suborbital flight aboard the New Shepard rocket lasted approximately 11 minutes, reaching an altitude of about 100 kilometers (62 miles) above Earth, crossing the Kármán line—the recognized boundary of space.
Lauren Sánchez, a licensed pilot and fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, played a pivotal role in assembling the crew. The mission not only highlighted the growing inclusivity in space exploration but also underscored Blue Origin’s commitment to expanding access to space for diverse participants.
Katy Perry shared her excitement about the journey, noting the personal significance of the capsule’s name, “Tortoise,” which aligns with a childhood nickname given by her mother. She expressed a sense of spiritual affirmation and looked forward to the possibility of singing in space.
This mission represents Blue Origin‘s 11th human flight since initiating operations in 2021 and serves as a notable event in the ongoing evolution of commercial space travel.
