The court found that Greeshma had premeditatedly poisoned Sharon by administering an ayurvedic concoction laced with a lethal herbicide, paraquat dichloride, at her residence on October 14, 2022.

The prosecution established that Greeshma’s motive was to end her relationship with Sharon in order to marry another individual. Despite her attempts to persuade Sharon to break up, his reluctance led her to devise a plan to eliminate him. After consuming the poisoned concoction, Sharon suffered severe damage to his liver, kidneys, and lungs, ultimately succumbing to multiple organ failure 11 days later.

In addition to Greeshma’s sentencing, her uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was convicted of destroying evidence related to the crime and received a three-year imprisonment sentence.

The court noted that Greeshma‘s actions were a betrayal of Sharon’s trust, involving emotional manipulation and a meticulously planned execution of the crime. The severity of the offense led the court to classify it as a “rarest of rare” case, justifying the imposition of the death penalty.
