Lady Gaga began the Olympics opening ceremony with a rendition of Zizi Jeanmaire’s “Mon Truc En Plumes” on a staircase along the Seine River.
Surrounded by pink feathers, Gaga’s brief performance evoked memories of her Jazz and Piano residency in Las Vegas and seemed to honor Jeanmaire’s Ed Sullivan Show appearance. After descending the stairs, Gaga led a chorus line and played the piano.
The opening ceremony, directed by Thomas Jolly, is one of the most ambitious yet, taking place along the Seine River. Performers were largely kept secret before the event.
On Instagram, Gaga expressed her gratitude and admiration for Jeanmaire, celebrating France and its culture.

“Though I am not a French artist, I have always felt a special connection with French people and singing French music. I wanted to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and remind everyone of the magic of Paris on such a significant occasion,” she wrote.
French-Malian pop star Aya Nakamura, a leading contemporary French artist, also performed on Friday.

Dion has openly discussed how stiff-person syndrome has impacted her vocal control and ability to sing.
This neurological disorder causes rigidity in the torso and limbs and severe muscle spasms. Dion released a documentary in June titled “I Am: Céline Dion,” showcasing her struggle with debilitating muscle spasms.
