At a press conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi alleged that Kejriwal’s weight was measured with three different machines during his medical examination in Tihar jail.

A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar jail following the completion of his interim bail in a money laundering case, AAP leaders on Monday claimed he was denied a cooler in his cell and that his weight was measured three times as part of a “conspiracy.”

The Tihar jail authorities dismissed these claims, stating that Kejriwal’s weight was measured only once using a single machine and that coolers are provided based on court orders.

“Kejriwal’s weight is 63.5 kilograms, measured once upon his surrender on Sunday. The weighing machine had no issues. His other vitals, including blood pressure and sugar levels, are normal,” a senior Tihar jail officer told PTI.

At a press conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi alleged that Kejriwal’s weight was measured with three different machines during his medical examination in Tihar on Sunday.

She also highlighted that despite Delhi’s temperatures ranging from 48 to 50 degrees Celsius, Kejriwal was kept in a cell without a cooler.

“Even notorious criminals in Tihar get coolers, but the popular Chief Minister Kejriwal has not been given one. I question the BJP and the LG on how low they will stoop,” she said.

Atishi pointed out that Kejriwal, who has had diabetes for 30 years, has been losing weight over the past few months and accused the authorities of cruelty.

“After surrendering as a law-abiding citizen, he is kept in a heated cell without a cooler. I say to the BJP and the prime minister, not just the people of Delhi, but even God will not forgive them for this atrocity against Kejriwal,” she said.

Atishi also alleged discrepancies in Kejriwal’s weight measurements on Sunday, claiming the first machine showed 61 kg, the second 64 kg, and the third 66.5 kg.

“His weight was 70 kg when arrested by the ED on March 21 and dropped to 63 kg at home before surrendering on Monday. This 7 kg loss is serious, yet the ED opposed his bail for medical tests,” she said.

Atishi noted that Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj would investigate the matter, suggesting a “very big conspiracy” behind it.

The Tihar jail officer stated that Kejriwal’s weight was 64 kg when released on May 10, measured with the same machine used on Sunday. The officer also reported Kejriwal’s BP at 120/76 and sugar level at 120 on Monday.

Kejriwal receives insulin twice daily and is monitored by two doctors in prison,” the officer said, adding that the chief minister spoke to his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, by phone on Monday evening.

Regarding the lack of a cooler, the jail official explained that coolers are provided to inmates who are unwell, based on court orders.

AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh reiterated the claim on X (formerly Twitter), criticizing the inconsistent weight measurements and lack of a cooler, questioning the functioning of the weighing machines and urging the LG to address the issue.

Singh emphasized that Kejriwal was kept in a small, hot cell without a cooler despite temperatures reaching 44 degrees Celsius.
