Hardik Pandya and the Mumbai Indians faced yet another setback after their seventh defeat in the IPL season to Lucknow Super Giants. According to an IPL statement, the incident occurred during Match 48 against Lucknow Super Giants on April 30, 2024, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Mumbai Indians‘ woes continued on the field as they were restricted to 144/7 after being put in to bat by KL Rahul. Pandya, named India’s vice-captain for the T20 World Cup earlier, suffered a first-ball duck, while Rohit Sharma managed only 4 runs off five deliveries.
The team has faced a turbulent season, dealing with off-field controversies and on-field struggles. Pandya’s form with both bat and ball has been a concern, managing only six wickets in 10 appearances with an economy rate of 11. He is yet to score a half-century, accumulating 197 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 150.38.
MI’s playoff chances are slim, sitting at the ninth spot in the table with six points. With four matches remaining against top-four contenders like Kolkata Knight Riders (twice), Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants, their path to the playoffs looks challenging.
