India’s T20 World Cup Squad: Rahul dropped, Pandya vice-captain; Pant returned

The BCCI has unveiled the provisional Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the U.S.A. and West Indies. Notably, star batsman K.L. Rahul has been omitted, with Hardik Pandya appointed vice-captain to Rohit Sharma.

Included in the squad are wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. However, Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh find themselves in the reserves. Rishabh Pant makes a comeback after recovering from a car accident in 2022.

The announcement was made by the BCCI after a meeting between secretary Jay Shah and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Ahmedabad.

Despite his recent form, Hardik Pandya retains the vice-captaincy. Samson, performing well for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, earns a spot as the second wicketkeeper-batter.

Shivam Dube, known for his powerful hitting, secured his spot in the squad following an impressive performance in the IPL.

Leg-spinner Chahal returns to the team alongside Kuldeep Yadav. Gill and Singh are named among the standbys, with Yashasvi Jaiswal also included after a resurgence in form.

India will kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York.
