In a tragic turn of events, a 23-year-old woman with both German and Israeli roots, Shani Louk, who was abducted by Hamas militants during the Nova music festival on October 7, has been confirmed as deceased, according to an announcement by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The devastating news was shared by the ministry through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “We are heartbroken to report that the body of Shani (Louk), a 23-year-old of German-Israeli descent, has been discovered and positively identified.”

The identification process was aided by forensic experts who came across a bone fragment from Shani’s skull. This fragment, specifically from the petrous part of the temporal bone, situated at the base of the skull near the carotid artery, was subject to a DNA test, confirming its connection to Shani Louk.
Shani’s mother, Ricarda Louk, expressed her grief, saying, “She was a vibrant, beautiful soul who cherished laughter and the joys of life, and her untimely departure has left a void in our hearts.”
Shani Louk was attending the festival in southern Israel when it was breached by Hamas militants on October 7. She was subsequently taken hostage, enduring torment and being paraded within Gaza by the Hamas group, leading to unimaginable suffering.

The discovery of the bone fragment, combined with the circumstances of the October 7 attack and video evidence showing Shani Louk unconscious on the back of a Hamas vehicle, led investigators to the grim conclusion that the fragment was indeed a part of her remains.
During the attack on October 7, Hamas militants sealed off the routes to the festival from both the north and south, swarming the area on foot. Videos captured the distressing scenes as they encircled the festival-goers, resulting in casualties and forcing them to flee across fields to the east.
