Reasi’s SSP Mohita Sharma reported that the driver lost control of the bus due to the gunfire, leading to the crash. Atleast 10 persons died and 33 injured in the incident.
On Sunday, a tragic attack resulted in the deaths of approximately 10 individuals and injuries to 33 others when terrorists opened fire on a bus transporting pilgrims. The bus subsequently plunged into a deep gorge in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred in the evening as the bus was en route from the Shiv Khori temple in Reasi to Katra, according to officials.

Reasi’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma reported that the driver lost control of the bus due to the gunfire, leading to the crash. The identities of the passengers, who were non-locals, have not yet been confirmed.
SSP Sharma also stated that the rescue operation was completed with the assistance of locals at the scene, and by 8:10 pm, all passengers had been evacuated. The injured were transported to various hospitals in Reasi, Treyath, and Jammu for treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to assess the situation. “PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji took stock of the situation and has asked me to constantly monitor the situation. All those behind this heinous act will be punished soon. Hon’ble PM has also directed that all the injured are provided the best possible medical care and assistance,” stated the Office of LG J&K on X.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also provided an update, stating that the local administration in J&K is working urgently to ensure that the injured receive immediate medical care. He emphasized that those responsible for the attack on pilgrims would not go unpunished.
First-time BJP MP Kangana Ranaut condemned the terrorist attack, expressing her sorrow for the victims and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. “I strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack on the pilgrims in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir. I pray for the departed and hope for the swift recovery of the injured,” she said.

J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina criticized the terrorists, stating, “Cowardly Pakistani terrorists cannot face the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and our paramilitary forces… The terrorists who have carried out this audacity will have to pay a heavy price for their crime.”
In response to the attack, a joint operation headquarters comprising the police, Indian Army, and CRPF was established at the site. A comprehensive operation was launched to apprehend the attackers, who are believed to be hiding in the upper reaches of Rajouri, Reasi, and Poonch, according to sources.
