The Veep star expressed her views, stating, “Being mindful of sensitivities is beneficial. It doesn’t mean that all comedy is compromised. When people complain about political correctness, I understand their frustration, but it’s often a red flag, indicating deeper issues. Awareness of sensitivities is important. I can’t emphasize this enough.”

Louis-Dreyfus, who played Elaine on the iconic sitcom Seinfeld created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, responded to Seinfeld’s comments about TV comedy being hindered by “the extreme left and PC culture, with people overly concerned about offending others.”

In a follow-up call eleven days after their initial conversation, she expanded on her thoughts. “Political correctness, when it promotes tolerance, is excellent,” she noted. “I support free speech and reserve the right to criticize offensive remarks. However, a bigger threat to art is the concentration of money and power. The consolidation of studios, outlets, streamers, and distributors stifles the creative voice, which is a greater concern for artistic creation.”

When asked if new sensitivities improve comedy, Louis-Dreyfus replied, “I can’t determine if it’s better, but the lens through which we create art today has changed. This applies to both comedy and drama. Even classic, universally acclaimed films from the past contain attitudes that are unacceptable today. It’s crucial to remain vigilant.”
