Pleasure (2021) is a Swedish drama film written and directed by Ninja Thyberg. It offers an unvarnished and often brutal look at the adult film industry through the eyes of a newcomer.

Movie Summary
The film follows 19-year-old Linnéa (Sofia Kappel), who leaves her small town in Sweden for Los Angeles with the ambitious dream of becoming a celebrated porn star under the stage name “Bella Cherry.” Full of confidence and a desire for fame, she quickly immerses herself in the industry. Under the guidance of her manager and fellow aspiring actresses, Bella begins to navigate the complex and challenging world of adult filmmaking.

Initially, Bella is determined to push her boundaries to achieve more significant roles and increase her online following. She encounters various aspects of the industry, from the bureaucratic processes to different types of sets and performers. However, as she strives for success, she is increasingly confronted with the harsh realities, power dynamics, and ethical compromises that often exist beneath the surface. She witnesses and experiences objectification, manipulation, and instances where consent becomes ambiguous or ignored.
The film highlights the stark contrast between her initial idealistic view of “pleasure” and the often grueling and dehumanizing nature of the work. Bella’s journey forces her to confront her own limits and the true cost of her ambitions, leading to a profound disillusionment with the industry and her place within it.
