Pingpong (2006) is a German drama film directed by Matthias Luthardt. It explores themes of family dysfunction, emotional manipulation, and the awkwardness of adolescence.

Movie Summary
The film begins with 16-year-old Paul (Sebastian Urzendowsky) arriving unannounced at the isolated countryside home of his aunt Anna (Marion Mitterhammer) and uncle Stefan (Falk Rockstroh) in eastern Germany. Paul’s father has recently committed suicide, and he’s seeking refuge and a sense of an “ideal world.” The seemingly perfect family, which also includes his cousin Robert (Clemens Berg), a talented pianist preparing for conservatory entrance exams, is quickly disrupted by Paul’s presence.
Initially, Aunt Anna is unwelcoming, preoccupied with Robert’s piano career. However, as she sees Paul keeping himself busy by renovating their dilapidated swimming pool, her attitude shifts to a complex blend of affection and manipulation. Paul, in his vulnerable state, becomes increasingly attracted to Anna.
Anna, a former professional pianist, struggles with her own unfulfilled ambitions and begins to subtly use Paul as a pawn in her strained relationship with her son, Robert, who senses the unsettling dynamic.
As Robert’s exam approaches, tensions escalate. Robert boycotts the exam, and accidentally witnesses Anna’s disturbing manipulation of Paul. Paul, now emotionally entangled, sees a future only with Anna, while Anna realizes she’s lost control.
When Uncle Stefan returns, Anna tries to restore a facade of harmony, harshly rejecting Paul. Hurt and betrayed, Paul realizes there’s no place for him in their family and leaves, but not before an act of desperate revenge that irrevocably alters the family’s lives.
