On April 4, 2025, during a preliminary hearing in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Taylor Schabusiness, a 27-year-old convicted murderer, attacked her attorney, Curtis Julka. The hearing was related to new charges stemming from an alleged assault on a prison guard in July 2024.

As the session commenced, Schabusiness suddenly lunged at Julka, prompting immediate intervention from court officers who restrained her and removed her from the courtroom.

Following the incident, the hearing resumed with Schabusiness participating via Zoom. Judge Anthony Nehls ruled that she had waived her right to be physically present due to her behavior. During the virtual session, Schabusiness entered a not guilty plea to the battery charge. Subsequently, Julka requested to withdraw from the case, a motion that was granted by the court.

This courtroom outburst is not Schabusiness’s first; in February 2023, she attacked her previous attorney, Quinn Jolly, during a competency hearing related to her murder trial. Schabusiness is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the 2022 murder and dismemberment of her boyfriend, Shad Thyrion.

The recent battery charge originates from an incident on July 24, 2024, at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. Schabusiness allegedly attacked a nurse and a prison guard while seeking medical attention for a staple in her arm. Witnesses reported that she lunged at the nurse and later assaulted the guard by hitting her with a tray and swinging a metal table.
