Officer Andrew Duarte of the West York Borough Police Department responded to the incident and was fatally shot during the confrontation.
In addition to Officer Duarte, a doctor, a nurse, a custodian, and two other officers sustained injuries.
The situation escalated until Archangel-Ortiz was shot and killed by police after holding a staff member at gunpoint.
Authorities believe Archangel-Ortiz had a prior connection to the ICU, having visited earlier in the week for a medical reason involving another individual, suggesting the attack was targeted.
Governor Josh Shapiro commended the bravery of law enforcement and hospital personnel in their response to the crisis.
