Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam birth anniversary: Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was an Indian aerospace scientist and the 11th President of India. He was popularly known as the ‘Missile Man of India’ for his works and development in ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam birth anniversary is celebrated as World Students Day on October 15 every year.
Dr. Kalam worked as a scientist and science administrator in two prestigious institutions of the Government of India – Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Early Life
Avul Pakir Jainuladbeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in a muslim family in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He was the youngest of four brothers and one sister in his family. He completed his schooling from Schwartz Higher Secondary School and went to Saint Joseph’s College in Tiruchirapalli. He graduated in physics in 1954.
In 1955, he moved to Madras to study further Aerospace Engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam became the 11th President of India and served the nation from 2002 to 2007. Due to his humility and high thinking, he was known as the ‘People’s President’.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Awards and Honours
Dr. Kalam made many contributions in the development of society. He received 7 honorary doctorates from 40 universities during his lifetime. In 1981, the Government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan award and with Padma Vibhushan award in 1990.
He also received India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna in 1997. In 2007, he received the King Charles II Medal from the Royal Society.
