Rachel Minaya was found deceased on Saturday in the New Jersey home she shared with Omar Minaya.
Before Monday’s game, the New York Yankees held a moment of silence to honor Rachel Minaya, the wife of team executive Omar Minaya, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 55.

“The Yankees are deeply saddened by the loss of Rachel Minaya, wife of our Baseball Operations Senior Advisor, Omar Minaya. To those who knew her best, she was a loving and compassionate mother and wife, and a tremendous supporter of her family and friends,” the Yankees said in a statement.
“In the short time Omar has been with the Yankees, he has quickly become a cherished member of our organization, known for his unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Throughout his esteemed career, he has always shown kindness and friendship to others. During this incredibly difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Omar, his sons Justin and Teddy, and their entire family. They are an integral part of our baseball family, and we all feel this loss deeply.”
Rachel Minaya was found deceased on Saturday in the New Jersey home she shared with Omar Minaya, who was not present at the time, according to the New York Post.
While the cause of death has not been disclosed, the Post reported that suicide has been ruled out. The Minayas have two adult sons, Justin and Teddy, and were married for over 30 years.
Omar Minaya began his role as senior advisor to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman in 2023. His previous roles include serving as the GM of the New York Mets from 2004 to 2010 and as a special assistant with the Mets from 2017 to 2020. He was also the GM of the Montreal Expos from 2002 to 2004, prior to the team’s relocation to Washington.

“We were profoundly saddened to hear about Rachel Minaya’s passing. Omar has had a significant impact on our organization, and Rachel was always there supporting him,” Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen said in a statement.
“The Minayas have been dear friends to us for many years, and we extend our deepest sympathies to Omar and his entire family and loved ones.”
