Griner shared the exciting news on Friday during her appearance on CBS Sports’ show We Need to Talk. The 33-year-old athlete, who gained widespread attention in 2022 after her arrest in Russia for cannabis possession, revealed that their son was born on July 8. The couple had previously announced that they would name him Bash.
“He is amazing,” Griner expressed on the show. “They say as soon as you see him, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window, and that’s literally what happens.”
Griner, who plays center for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, is gearing up to compete with the U.S. women’s national basketball team at the Paris Olympics this summer. She has already won gold medals with the team in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games.
“It kind of sucks because I’ve got to leave, but at the same time, he’ll understand,” Griner said, mentioning that she planned to have Bash call her “Pops.” She added, “My whole phone is turned into him now.”
