Muharram is one of the holiest months of Hijri or Islamic calendar after Ramadan. It has great significance among the muslim community. Muharram is one of the four sanctified months of the year. This month is considered as the ‘Month of Allah’.
Muharram 2024:- Date
Muharram is the first month of Islamic calendar. So, this is known as the Islamic New Year. This year, Muharram began on July 7, 2024. The tenth day of Muharram is known as ‘Ashura’ which means ‘forbidden,’ will be observed from the evening of July 16, 2024 (Tuesday) to July 17, 2024 (Wednesday).

Muharram 2024:- History
Prophet Muhammad’s grandson and Hazrat Ali’s son Hussain Ibn Ali was killed by Yazid I in the battle of Karbala and this battle took place on the day of Ashura. Muslims mourn and remember the sacrifices of Prophet Muhammad’s family on this day. Muharram is a month of mourning and penance for muslims.
Muharram 2024:- Significance
People offer prayers to Allah and show their gratitude. They also take part in processions. Sunni muslims observe fast on Ashura while the Shia muslims mourn and mostly wear black on this day.
Muslims visit in mosques and engage in mourning rituals. They cry over the death of Hussain. People also refrain from celebrating joyous events on ashura.
