Devshayani Ekadashi is one of the most auspicious days of hindu community. It is observed on the 11th day of Shukla Paksha in the hindu month of Ashadha. This year, it will be celebrated on July 17, 2024 (Wednesday).

Devshayani Ekadashi is also known as Maha Ekadashi, Prathama Ekadashi and Padma Ekadashi. It marks the beginning of Chaturmas, which concludes on Prabodhini Ekadashi. Devotees of Lord Vishnu celebrate this day with full of enthusiasm and zeal. It is believed that Lord Vishnu goes to sleep for four months on this day.

Devshayani Ekadashi is one of the most auspicious Ekadashis. As per Hindu scriptures, Lord Brahma narrated the importance and significance of Devshayani Ekadashi to his son Narada and the same was narrated by Lord Krishna to King Yudhishthir, the eldest son of Pandavas.

People wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. They wear clean clothes and observe fast the whole day. The idol of Lord Vishnu is adorned in bright yellow clothes and the sweets, flowers and vermillion are offered. After performing puja, prasad or bhog is distributed.

People also do charity on this day. It is believed that the devotees who observe fast on this sacred day, Lord Vishnu bless them with peace, happiness and prosperity. By observing fast, people can even attain salvation on this day.
