The first ever International Dance day was celebrated on April 29, 1982. Ever since, it has been celebrated every year all over the world. This day marks the birth anniversary of French dancer and Ballet master Jean-Georges Noverre.
This day came into existence when the dance committee of International Theatres Institute recognise the different dance forms. It is the main partner for performing arts of UNESCO.
