Maha Shivratri is one of the most auspicious festivals of Hindus. People in India celebrate this day with full of enthusiasm and fervour. Maha Shivratri is also known as the night of Shiva. This day marks the convergence of Shiva and Shakti.
As per Hindu calendar, Maha Shivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi tithi of Falgun month. According to the Gregorian calendar, it comes in the month of February or March every year which is the end of winter and the beginning of spring or summer season. This year, Maha Shivratri falls on Friday March 8, 2024.

Maha Shivratri 2024:- History
Maha Shivratri is a great festival of convergence of Shiva and Shakti. According to the Hindu Mythology, it is believed that Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati got married on this day. People worship Shiva Lingam on this day to wash away their sins and choose the path of righteousness.
Maha Shivratri 2024:- Significance
Hindus of every state of India go to Shiva temple on this day. Bhang has a great significance on Maha Shivratri. It is distributed as prasad in the temples. Fasting of Maha Shivratri starts from Triyodashi itself. After performing the morning rituals, devotees take sankalp on Shivratri to observe a full day fast and to eat food next day.
Devotees also take second bath in the evening before doing Shiva Puja and visiting temples. Shiva Puja should be done during night and devotees should break the fast next day after taking bath.
