According to the Hindu Mythology, Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati got married on the night of Maha Shivratri and Lord Shiva performed tandava dance on the same night.

People worship Lord Shiva and offer milk to Shiva Linga on this day. Devotees perform the morning rituals and observe a full day fast. They also bath second time in the evening before doing Shiva puja and visiting temples. The fast should be broken on the next day.
