A devastating incident unfolded in Buxar, Bihar, when the 12506 Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur railway station, resulting in a tragic loss of four lives and injuries to 70 individuals.
The response to this calamity was swift, with emergency services rushing to the scene. Those with severe injuries were promptly transported to AIIMS Patna for medical attention.
Currently, restoration work on the damaged tracks is in progress, as reported by ANI. To effectively manage the situation, railway officials have established war rooms for continuous monitoring of on-ground activities.
The North East Express, en route from Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya Junction in Assam’s Guwahati, encountered the accident with six coaches derailing. Notably, two AC 3-tier coaches toppled over, and four others jumped off the tracks during the incident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the train, which embarked on its nearly 33-hour journey from Anand Vihar Station at 7:40 am on Wednesday, was initially traveling at a normal speed. Suddenly, a loud sound reverberated, and smoke started emanating from the train, creating a chaotic scene.
Local residents near the accident site rushed to assess the situation and discovered the derailed train, with AC coaches being particularly impacted. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the completion of rescue and evacuation operations, expressing condolences for the lives lost and assuring a thorough investigation into the root cause of the derailment.

In response to the incident, Indian Railways promptly initiated helpline numbers to assist affected passengers. Furthermore, the Kamakhya Railway Station issued its helpline number for passenger support.
The aftermath of the Buxar train accident has also led to significant disruptions in rail services. Two trains, namely the Kashi-Patna Jan Shatabdi Express and Pathna-Kashi Jan Shatabdi Express, were canceled due to the incident. Additionally, 21 trains were diverted from their original routes, affecting travel plans for passengers.
The list of diverted trains includes prominent services like Pune-Danapur SF Express, Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, and Guwahati Express, among others, causing widespread impact across various railway routes.
