Less than a fortnight following her husband’s sentencing to 30 years to life in prison for rape, Bijou Phillips, a model and actor, has initiated divorce proceedings.
The divorce petition was filed on Monday in Santa Barbara Superior Court, as per court records. The couple, who had been married since 2011 and share a 9-year-old child, is parting ways during this challenging time.

Peter A. Lauzon, Ms. Phillips’ attorney, issued a statement, saying, “Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time. Her priority remains with her daughter. This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family… Ms. Phillips acknowledges that Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter. She hopes that everyone will respect her family’s privacy in these difficult times.”
In her divorce filing, Phillips, aged 43, cited “irreconcilable differences” and is seeking spousal support along with coverage of legal fees. She has also requested to have her legal name reverted to Bijou Phillips.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the judge who sentenced her husband earlier that month, Phillips expressed her admiration for Masterson, describing him as a devoted father and a “life-saving partner.” She emphasized the importance of his presence in their lives despite his conviction on serious charges.
