Emmy-winning actor Ron Cephas Jones has passed away aged 66. In 2018 and 2020, Jones secured Emmy victories for Outstanding Guest Actor due to his performance in “This Is Us.”
Emmy-winning actor Ron Cephas Jones, aged 66, has passed away. A spokesperson for Jones confirmed the sad news, stating that the beloved and acclaimed actor died due to a prolonged pulmonary ailment.
The statement also conveyed that throughout his career, Ron’s warmth, kindness, and generosity touched all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. His inner beauty and soul shone brightly through his award-winning work on “This is Us,” which garnered multiple Emmy awards. He leaves behind his daughter, Jasmine Cephas Jones.
Jones gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of William Hill in the acclaimed series “This Is Us,” where he brought to life the character of Randall Pearson’s biological father, portrayed by Sterling K. Brown.

Sterling K. Brown paid tribute to Ron Cephas Jones
After hearing the news of his death, Sterling K. Brown paid a tribute to him on social media and wrote, “Life imitated art today, and one of the most wonderful people the world has ever seen is no longer with us. Jones has passed away, and the world is a little less bright. Brother, you are loved. And you will be missed. Keep them laughing in the next phase of existence, and I’ll see you when I get there.”
In both 2018 and 2020, Jones secured Emmy victories for Outstanding Guest Actor due to his performance in “This Is Us.” In a remarkable turn of events, his daughter also clinched her inaugural Emmy that same year, creating a historic milestone as the first father-daughter duo to achieve Emmy wins in the same year.

Beyond the show, Ron Cephas Jones left his mark in various productions such as “Mr. Robot,” “The Get Down,” “Luke Cage,” “Looking For Alaska,” and “Truth Be Told.”
Despite privately battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Jones underwent a double lung transplant at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in 2020.
Following his recovery, he made a triumphant return to Broadway in 2022 with the play “Clyde’s.”
