Happy Doctor’s Day 2023:- History and Significance
Doctor’s Day has been celebrated every year in India since 1991. July 1 marks the birth as well as the death anniversary of one of the most renowned physicians in India, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was also the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
He established many medical institutions in India like Chittaranjan Seva Sadan for children and women, Chittaranjan Cancer hospital, Jadavpur T.B. hospital, Kamala Nehru Memorial hospital and Victoria College.
Dr. B.C. Roy was born on July 1, 1882. On February 4, 1961 he received India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna. Doctor’s day is celebrated to recognise his contributions towards the country.
First time, Doctor’s day had been observed on March, 1933 in the US state of Georgia and was celebrated by sending cards to physicians and doctors.
Doctors are the protection layer of human beings who protect us from harmful diseases. Health of the public is more important for doctors than money. Many doctors offer their services at cheap prices which is economical for weaker sections. During the Covid-19 period, they did their work for the welfare of public without caring of their own families.
