Chaitra Navratri is one of the most auspicious and religious festivals of hindus. It is celebrated in the Chaitra month of Hindu lunar calendar. As per the Gregorian calendar, it comes in March or April. Chaitra Navratri is a nine day long hindu festival. This year, it begins on March 22 and will end on March 30.

During Navratri, nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped — Shailaputri or Pratipada, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidhatri. People observe fast during these days and abstain from alcohol and non-vegetarian food. Onion and garlic is also not used in the homes.

In India, four navratris are celebrated in a year. Chaitra and Sharada Navratris are celebrated the most. Sharada Navratri is celebrated in September-October. The other two Navratris are Magha Navratri and Asadha Navratri. Magha Navratri falls in January-February while Asadha Navratri comes in June-July.

This year, Chaitra Navratri begins from March 22 and will end on March 30, 2023. Ashtami of the Chaitra Navratri is one of the most auspicious day which will be observed on March 29, 2022. Sandhi puja is done on Ashtami. The timing for Sandhi puja is between 08:43 PM and 09:31 PM on March 29, 2023. Pratipada tithi begins on March 21 at 10:52 p.m. and concludes on March 22 at 8:20 p.m.

Chaitra Navratri marks the win of good over evil. As per the Hindu mythology, Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasura. The ninth day of Chaitra Navratri is celebrated as Ram Navmi, the birth anniversary of Lord Ram. This year, Ram Navmi falls on March 30. On this day, many devotees visit Ayodhya, the birth place of Ram.

Chaitra Navratri marks the beginning of New year as per the Hindu calendar. Navratri starts on the first day of Chaitra month. The first day of Chaitra Navratri is celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra and as Ugadi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Hindus celebrate Navratri with full of enthusiasm and fervour. Devotees visit temples and offer prayers. They also perform rituals and pujas as per Hindu astrology.
