National Police Commemoration Day 2024:- Here is all you need to know about the date, history and significance of National Police Commemoration Day.
National Police Commemoration Day is celebrated on October 21 every year in India. This day commemorates the ten CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. So, Police Commemoration Day is observed to honour those police personnel.

National Police Commemoration Day 2024:- History and Significance
On October 20, 1959 three groups of CRPF personnel were dispatched at the Hot spring region in North Eastern Ladakh to keep an eye at Indo-China border. One of the three groups comprising of two police constables and a porter didn’t return after patrolling on that day.
Next day, all available personnel were mobilized in search of missing personnel, led by DSP/DCIO Shri Karam Singh. At about mid-day, Chinese troops were seen at a hillock who opened firing at the party led by Karam Singh.
As a result, ten police personnel attained martyrdom and eight got injured, who were taken prisoners by the Chinese. Bodies of the personnel were returned by China after three weeks of the incident on November 13, 1959. Their last rites were performed with full police honours at Hot springs.
The Annual Conference of Inspectors General of Police of States and Union Territories held in January 1960 decided that October 21 would henceforth be observed as Commemoration Day / Martyr’s Day.
A parade is held at the National Police Memorial at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi on October 21 every year since 2012.
