Baba Siddique’s murder has sent shockwaves across the political spectrum, with leaders expressing concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra.
Former minister of Maharashtra and NCP leader Baba Siddique was tragically shot dead in a targeted attack in Bandra, Mumbai on October 12, 2024. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office, amid Dussehra celebrations. The attackers, with their faces covered, emerged from a vehicle and fired multiple rounds at Siddique, taking advantage of the festive noise to mask the gunfire.

He was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after resuscitation attempts failed. Siddique had sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest, and a post-mortem examination is expected to confirm the exact number of bullets fired.
Mumbai Police swiftly responded by apprehending two suspects linked to the murder, while a third suspect remains at large. The weapon used in the crime, a 9.9mm pistol, has been recovered.
The motive for the killing remains under investigation, although police have not ruled out political motives given Siddique’s stature as a former three-time MLA and a key figure in Maharashtra’s politics. He had recently left the Congress party and joined Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP earlier in 2024.

In addition to political reactions, Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, visited Lilavati Hospital to pay their respects to the Siddique family, reflecting Baba Siddique’s deep ties with both the film industry and political circles.
