Mulayam Singh Yadav, former UP CM and SP founder, dies at 82

Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav has passed away at Medanta hospital, Gurugram. President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and several other dignitaties paid him tribute.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of Samajwadi Party and the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, dies on October 10, 2022. His son and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav confirmed this news. He was 82 years old.

Mulayam Singh Yadav had been undergoing treatment at the Medanta hospital, Gurugram since August 22. On October 2, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A tweet on the official account of Samajwadi Party reads, “My respected father and everyone’s leader is no more – Shri Akhilesh Yadav”

Further information about the politician’s funeral has also been shared. “Respected Netaji passed away today morning on 10/10/2022 at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram. His body is being taken to Saifai. Tomorrow, on 11/10/2022, the funeral will be held in Saifai at 3 pm,” Samajwadi Party tweeted.

President Murmu, PM Modi and others paid tribute to Mulayam Singh Yadav

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries paid tribute to the veteran politician.

President Murmu said that his death is an irreparable loss to the country.

“The death of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav is an irreparable loss to the country. The achievements of Mulayam Singh Yadav ji, who came from an ordinary environment, were extraordinary. ‘Dharti Putra’ Mulayam ji was a veteran leader associated with the land. He was respected by people of all parties. My deepest condolences to his family members and supporters!,” Droupadi Murmu wrote.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar tweeted, “Deeply pained by the passing away of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji. He was an illustrious political leader who dedicated his life to the service of the people”

“Coming from a humble agriculturalist background, he made immense contributions to nation building as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Defence Minister of India. My deepest condolences to his family members and admirers. Om Shanti,” he added further.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Mulayam Singh Yadav was a remarkable personality.

“Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji was a remarkable personality. He was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to people’s problems. He served people diligently and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Loknayak JP and Dr. Lohia,” PM Modi tweeted.

“Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji distinguished himself in UP and national politics. He was a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency. As Defence Minister, he worked for a stronger India. His Parliamentary interventions were insightful and emphasised on furthering national interest,” PM wrote in one more tweet.

Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences to his family and lakhs of supporters.

“I had many interactions with Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji when we served as Chief Ministers of our respective states. The close association continued and I always looked forward to hearing his views. His demise pains me. Condolences to his family and lakhs of supporters. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted, “The demise of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav ji is extremely sad. His death marked the end of a major pillar of socialism and a struggling era. I pray to God for the peace of the departed soul and express my condolences to the bereaved family and supporters.”

The Uttar Pradesh government announced three days state mourning as a mark of respect to the former CM of Uttar Pradesh. His last rites will be performed with full state honours.
