Businessman and film producer Atlas Ramachandran has died in Dubai at the age of 80. Reportedly, he died of a cardiac arrest. He had started his career as a bank employee.
Businessman and film producer Atlas Ramachandran has died in Dubai. He was 80.
Ramachandran, also known as MM Ramachandran, was admitted to hospital in Dubai with liver-related ailments. Reportedly, he died of a cardiac arrest on Sunday night.
Born in 1942 in Kerala’s Thrissur district, Ramachandran had started his career as a bank employee before turning into business. He earned a big household name due to his unique advertising style.
He used to feature in the advertisements and deliver a line: Atlas Jewellery, the trusted name of crores of people.
Started three decades ago, Atlas Jewellery Group had 50 branches in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It had branches in Kerala too.

Atlas Group also ventured into the healthcare, real estate and film distribution sectors.
Atlas Ramachandran was passionate about films
Atlas Ramachandran was very passionate about films. He acted in over a dozen of movies and also produced a few films.
Popular Malayalam movies Vaishali and Sukrutham was produced by Ramachandran. In 2015, he found guilty of financial fraud and jailed for three years.
He is survived by his wife Indira and two children Dr. Manju and Srikanth.
