Sankashti Chaturthi is an important day for hindu community. People worship Lord Ganesha on this day. It is celebrated on Chaturthi tithi during Krishna Paksha in the hindu month of Shravan. This year, Sankashti Chaturthi falls on Saturday July 16.
Hindus observe fast on this day. It is believed that Lord Ganesha removes all the obstacles of those who observe fast on this day. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s son Lord Ganesha is also known as Gajanan and Vighna Harta.

People take blessings of Lord Ganesha by worshipping him on this day. They observe fast for the whole day for their good health, happiness and prosperity. It is believed that the couples who are yet to have children will be blessed with kids if they observe Sankashti Chaturthi vrat.

People wake up early in the morning and after taking a bath, they wear clean clothes. The idol of Lord Ganesha is also bathed with panchamrit milk, curd, sugar, honey and ghee. Devotees offer vermillion, flowers, laddoo and modak to Lord Ganesha’s idol. They offer prayers and recite Lord Ganesha Katha.
After performing puja, bhog is distributed among the family members. Devotees also visit Lord Ganesha temple on this day. They can break fast in the evening with fried potato alongwith curd, fruits and rice kheer.
