Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most holy and auspicious festivals of Hindus and Jains. It is also known as Akti, Akha Teej and Manda. It is celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaisakh. This year, Akshaya Tritiya falls on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
In Sanskrit, Akshaya means ‘never diminishing’ and Tritiya signifies the ‘third phase of the moon.’ Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born on this day. In Jain community, this day is celebrated to commemorate their first God ‘Lord Adinath.’

As per Hindus belief, Ved Vyasa began reciting the Hindu epic Mahabharata to the God Ganesha on Akshaya Tritiya. River Ganges descended to earth on this day. It is also believed that Lord Krishna met his childhood friend Sudama on Akshaya Tritiya. Lord Kuber is also worshipped on this day.
On Akshaya Tritiya, Pandavas received Akshay Patra (bowl) from Lord Krishna and thus were able to get unlimited food during their exile. Akshay Patra had the ability to produce as much food as required for any number of people.

Akshaya Tritiya is considered the most auspicious occasion for engagements, marriages, getting a new job and starting a new business. It is believed that buying gold, silver, ornaments and new property on this day brings wealth and prosperity in future. Buying anything new, depositing money in bank account is considered good.
Lord Vishnu and Maa Laxmi are worshipped on this day. Bhog is distributed after puja. People also observe fast during Akshaya Tritiya. It is also believed that taking bath in Ganga on this day can get rid of all the problems. People also do charity on this day. They distribute food and clothes to the needy and poor people.
