Parshuram is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and his birth anniversary is celebrated as Parshuram Jayanti. This year, it falls on May 3, 2022. According to Hindu belief, unlike all other avatars Parshuram still lives on the earth. Therefore, like Ram and Krishna, he is not worshipped.
Parshuram prevented the earth from the evil powers. The purpose of Parshuram is to relieve the earth’s burden by exterminating sinful, destructive and irreligious monarchs that pillaged its resources and neglected their duties as kings.
Lord Parshuram was born to sage Jamadagni and Renuka. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. Shiva impressed from his devotion and gave him a war weapon named Parshu, which means an axe. It is believed that Parshuram used this weapon against Kshatriya’s cruelty.

As per Kalki Purana, Parshuram is the martial guru of Shri Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Vishnu. In South India, one major temple exists at the holy place Pajaka near Udupi which commemorates Parshuram. There are many temples at the Western Coast of India which are dedicated to Lord Parshuram. According to Ramayana, Parshuram attended the betrothal of Lord Ram and Sita.
