Adi Shankaracharya’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti. It is celebrated on Panchami tithi during Shukla Paksha of Vaisakh month or fifth day of the full moon lunar fortnight. According to Gregorian calendar, it comes in the month of April or May.

Adi Shankara was the spiritual guru and philosopher. This year, Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti falls on May 6, 2022 and it marks his 1234th birth anniversary. Hindus celebrate this day with full of enthusiasm and fervour. Adi Shankaracharya was also known as Jagatguru.

Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti 2022:- History

Adi Shankaracharya was born in Kalady, Kerala during 788 CE. His mother was Aryamba and father was Sivaguru. It is believed that once there was a time when Hindus were deprived of spirituality. All hindu dieties and gurus decided to go to Lord Shiva to seek his help. Then, Lord Shiva came to earth as Adi Shankara to enlighten the people in hindu religion about spirituality. That’s why Adi Shankaracharya is considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti 2022:- Significance

From 16 to 32 years of age, Adi Shankara travelled across the country and spread the Vedic knowledge. His notable work includes several commentaries on Hindu scriptures including the Bhagavad Gita and 12 Upanishads. He composed meditation hymns like Soundarya Lahari, Sivananda Lahari, Nirvana Shalkam and Maneesha Panchakam. He consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta and received it at a time when Hindu culture was on decline.

Adi Shankara, Madhava and Ramanuja was instrumental in the revival of Hinduism. These three teachers formed the doctrines which are followed by their sects even today.
