Priyank Panchal replaces Rohit Sharma in India’s test squad. The vice-captain of Indian test team Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the upcoming three matches test series against South Africa due to left hamstring injury.

The three matches test series will begin from December 26, 2021 and will end on January 15, 2022. Earlier, India tour of South Africa was scheduled to begin from December 17 but due to omicron variant, it has been postponed and the scheduled three matches T20 series has been cancelled.

“Team India Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. Priyank Panchal will replace Rohit Sharma in the Test squad.”, BCCI stated on monday in a news article.

Rohit Sharma recently replaced Ajinkya Rahane as India’s test team vice-captain. Rohit has also become the India’s ODI Captain. It has been announced by BCCI at the time of announcing India’s test squad for the South Africa tour. The three matches ODI series will begin on January 19, 2022 against South Africa, where Rohit will be the captain of team India.

Priyank Panchal, who replaces Rohit Sharma in India’s test squad, is from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He is the right-hand batsman and the right arm medium pace bowler. He plays for Gujarat.

In November 2016, Panchal became the first cricketer for Gujarat to hit triple century. The following year, he became the first player for Gujarat to score 1000 runs in a single Ranji Trophy season.

The 31 year old Priyank Panchal has played 100 First class matches and 50 T20 matches so far. After selection in the India’s Test squad, he thanked everyone for the good wishes.
