Florence Pugh candidly discusses embracing self-acceptance and managing scrutiny surrounding her style decisions. She underscores the significance of promoting body positivity and liberating oneself from the weight of judgment.
Hollywood actress Florence Pugh has once more addressed the backlash she faced last year due to wearing a transparent dress that revealed her nipples. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Pugh emphasized that the fear lies in embracing freedom.
The “Oppenheimer” lead took the opportunity to reflect on the body-shaming remarks she received after donning a sheer pink tulle Valentino gown with a halter-neck design during the brand’s event in Rome in July 2022.
Pugh explained the reasoning behind her dress choice and shared her reaction to the negative feedback.

She said, “I speak the way I do about my body because I am not trying to hide the cellulite on my thigh or the squidge in between my arm and my boob: I would much rather lay it all out. I think the scariest thing for me are the instances where people have been upset that I have shown ‘too much’ of myself.”
“When everything went down with the Valentino pink dress a year ago, my nipples were on display through a piece of fabric, and it really wound people up. It’s the freedom that people are scared of; the fact I’m comfortable and happy,” Florence Pugh added.
“Keeping women down by commenting on their bodies has worked for a very long time. I think we’re in this swing now where lots of people are saying, ‘I don’t give a sh*t. We need to keep reminding everybody that there is more than one reason for women’s bodies [to exist],” she continued.
Speaking with Elle magazine, Pugh discussed her recent recognition as the “British Icon” during the magazine’s Style Awards.
This marks her second instance of addressing the feedback garnered by her attire from the previous July. In an Instagram post back then, the 27-year-old actress candidly addressed the aggressive and vulgar remarks aimed at her breasts and nipples.

In addition to critiques of Pugh’s fashion choices, discussions about her intimate scenes on screen have also sparked interest throughout her illustrious career. In August 2022, Pugh opted not to discuss the intimate scenes shared with Harry Styles in Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling,” as she believed such conversations overlooked the efforts of the film’s collaborators.
Florence Pugh‘s latest cinematic venture, “Oppenheimer,” is currently playing in theaters, showcasing her alongside Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt in Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed work.
While “Oppenheimer” has garnered applause for its ensemble and production team, achieving a global box office revenue of over $800 million, certain audience members have expressed dissatisfaction with the romantic moments depicted in the film.
