In a moment of historic significance for Indian athletics, Neeraj Chopra secured the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Referred to as the ‘golden boy of Indian athletics,’ Neeraj Chopra has left an indelible mark in history by becoming the inaugural Indian athlete to achieve a gold medal at this esteemed championship.
In the early hours of August 28, Neeraj’s extraordinary accomplishment took center stage as he faced off against a global field of competitors. Showcasing unparalleled skill, he unleashed a phenomenal throw spanning 88.17 meters in his second try, unequivocally asserting his supremacy throughout the competition.
Chopra had entered the finals by throwing a distance of 88.77m in the men’s Javelin Throw.
This exceptional display not only clinched the gold medal for Neeraj but also positioned him as a pioneering force for Indian sports on the international platform.
Neeraj’s achievement was closely shadowed by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who secured a silver medal. Nadeem, known for his standout performances in the Commonwealth Games, executed an impressive throw spanning 87.82 meters.
Claiming the third spot on the winners’ platform was Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic, demonstrating his skill with a top throw of 86.67 meters.
In the competition, Kishore Kumar Jena and DP Manu, both representing India, secured the 5th and 6th positions, achieving their best throws at 84.77m (a personal best for Jena) and 84.14m, respectively. Notably, this marks the first instance where three Indian athletes have achieved top-six finishes in a major global track and field event.
