Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra advanced to the finals of the World Athletics Championships 2023 on Friday, achieving a distance of 88.77m in the men’s Javelin Throw. Securing his place in the finals guarantees Neeraj Chopra a spot in the Paris Olympics 2024 as well. His exceptional performance marked the peak of this season and ranks as the fourth-best in his career.

Neeraj Chopra’s impressive throw not only secured his place in the 2024 Paris Olympics but also met the required minimum distance of 85.50m for qualification. However, achieving the Olympic entry standards is only a component of the selection process. The ultimate determination of whether an athlete will join the NOC team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games lies with the National Olympic Committee.

Apart from Neeraj Chopra, only Julian Webber from Germany (82.39m) achieved a javelin throw exceeding 80 meters in the initial round.

The standout of the Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra, clinched silver in the previous World Athletics Championships. In the current year’s qualification A round, Anderson Peters, who secured gold previously, delivered a lackluster performance with a throw of 78.49m after three attempts.

India’s emerging Javelin Throw talent, DP Manu, achieved his best throw at a distance of 81.31 meters, securing the third position behind Julian Webber. DP Manu stands a strong chance of advancing to the World Athletics Championships 2023 finals, unless nine other athletes surpass his performance during qualification B.

Amid challenging atmospheric conditions marked by dense air and unpredictable crosswinds that hindered other athletes’ throws, Neeraj Chopra’s throw stood out as exceptional. These conditions created obstacles in achieving extended javelin distances.

Neeraj Chopra‘s pursuit of gold this year is backed by an impressive track record. Having clinched gold medals in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, along with his triumphant victory as a Diamond League champion and a shining gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, he holds strong prospects of achieving his goal.
