Prime minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Veer Savarkar on his 139th birth anniversary by sharing a video on twitter. Alongwith sharing a video, he wrote, “Respectful tribute to Veer Savarkar, the hardworking son of Mother Bharti, on his birth anniversary.”
Who was Veer Savarkar?
Veer Savarkar was born in the Brahmin family on 28th May, 1883 in the Nashik state of Maharashtra. He was the freedom fighter of India. He was lawyer, poet, writer and politician.
He developed Hindutva ideologue in the politics of India. He also wrote a book named ‘The Indian War of Independence’ in which he disclosed about India’s first Rebellion of 1857. This book was banned by the British colonial authorities.
Kalapani jail in 1911
During the british rule, he had also faced kalapani jail in 1911 in the murder case of Nashik collector. It was said that he sent pistol to his brother from london and his brother had murdered collector with that pistol. Kalapani jail was one of the tough and scared jail at that time.
Controversies about Savarkar
There are also many controversies about Savarkar. First controversy is that he had written many apology letters to the britishers when he was in prison.
In another controversy of 1949, Savarkar was accused of being involved in Gandhi’s murder but due to lack of concrete evidence he was acquitted.
