‘Goodfellas’ star Ray Liotta dies at 67 in Dominican Republic

American actor and producer Ray Liotta has died in the Dominican Republic where he was shooting for the film Dangerous Waters. Lorraine Bracco, co-star of Liotta in Goodfellas, remembered him on twitter after his death.

American actor and producer Ray Liotta has died on thursday (May 26). According to his publicist, Jennifer Allen, he died in the Dominican Republic where he was shooting for the film Dangerous Waters. He passed away in his sleep at the age of 67.

Raymond Allen Liotta was best known for his role of Henry Hill in the Martin Scorsese’s movie “Goodfellas” in 1990. This movie was based on the non-fiction book Wise Guy, written by Nicholas Pileggi.

Ray Liotta was born on December 18, 1954 in Newark, New Jersey. He grew up in nearby Union and was adopted by the Liotta family when he was six months old.

He started acting at the University of Miami where he was pursuing his graduation. After graduation, he played small roles in many commercials and TV shows but his breakout turn was in 1986 movie “Something Wild”, which was directed by Jonathan Demme.

In Field of Dreams, he played a ghost of baseball legend Shoeless Joe Jackson. After that, he played Henry Hill in ‘Goodfellas‘ which was a big hit and admired by the public.

Lorraine Bracco remembered Ray Liotta on twitter

Lorraine Bracco, co-star of Liotta in Goodfellas, remembered him on twitter after his death. “I am utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray,” she wrote.

“I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is Goodfellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same…Ray Liotta,” she added.

Liotta acted in many movies such as Corrina, Unlawful entry, Cop Land, The Rat Pack, Marriage Story and among others. In 2002, he starred in the popular video game “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” as Tommy Vercetti.

In 2005, he won an Emmy for a guest stint in the hospital drama ER in which he played the role of Charlie Metcalf, an alcoholic ex-convict who tries to reconnect with his son.

Recently, he appeared in “Shades of Blue” opposite Jennifer Lopez. This drama series ran for three seasons between 2016 and 2018.

Ray Liotta is survived by one daughter Karsen and was recently engaged to Jacy Nittolo.
