Bengali actress Rupa Dutta has been arrested for allegedly committing attention-diverting theft at the International Kolkata Book fair on saturday, the police official said.
Rupa Dutta who has acted in television soaps, was found throwing a purse into a dustbin by the policeman. She was detained and during the investigation, discrepancies were found in her answers and was arrested. Several purses and Rs. 70,000 cash were found from her bag during search.
“The woman has been arrested in connection with ‘kepmari’ (attention-diverting theft) and further investigation is underway to find out whether more people are connected with the crime,” police officer said.
Earlier in the year 2020, Rupa Dutta wrongly accused the filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual harrasment. Later, it was revealed that she was chatting with some other person whose first name ‘Anurag’ was same with the filmmaker. She also shared screenshots of the chat on social media.
