Faf du Plessis has been named Captain of RCB for IPL 2022. In the last season, Faf du Plessis was part of Chennai Super Kings. He knocked 633 runs in 16 matches and became the second highest run scorer in IPL 2021.
Faf du Plessis has been named Captain of RCB for IPL 2022. He will lead Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 15th season of IPL which will start from March 26. Virat Kohli was the captain of RCB till last season and he stepped down as RCB skipper after the end of last season.

The 37 year old Faf du Plessis is the ex-captain of South Africa. He gave up his captaincy from all formats in february 2020. Under his captaincy, South Africa won 25 matches out of 40 T20I matches.

In the last season, Faf was part of Chennai Super Kings. He performed very well in the last season and made 633 runs in 16 matches at an average of 45.21. He remained second highest run scorer in IPL 2021 just behind Orange cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad. Faf knocked 6 half centuries and unbeaten 95 was his highest run knock.

Ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB retained its three players – ex-captain Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj. Virat Kohli was retained in Rs. 15 crore. Glenn Maxwell was retained in Rs. 11 crore while Mohammed Siraj was retained in Rs. 7 crore. Faf du Plessis was purchased in Rs. 7 crore by RCB.
Royal Challengers Bangalore finished runners-up three times in IPL. RCB has never won any IPL season so far. It reached in the finals in IPL 2009, IPL 2011 and IPL 2016 but couldn’t win any of the finals.

In the last season, RCB played an impressive cricket and reached at third position after the completion of league stage. They won 9 matches and lost 5 out of 14 matches. However, RCB lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator match and finished at 4th position in the tournament.
Now, it is to be seen that the new captain Faf du Plessis helps RCB to win the maiden IPL trophy.
