His latest subject is Charlotte Cory (Connie Nielsen), a woman convicted of the abduction and murder of a child and scheduled for execution by lethal injection. Frank gains Charlotte’s trust by falsely claiming to have known her late father, initiating a correspondence that he intends to exploit for profit.

However, as Frank gets closer to Charlotte, his moral instincts are reawakened. He begins to suspect that Charlotte may be innocent of the crime and was perhaps wrongfully convicted. Breaking his own rule of never meeting the inmates, Frank travels to the prison to see Charlotte face-to-face.
