At the 31st Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, Jane Fonda was honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award. The ceremony took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, with actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus presenting the award to Fonda.

In her acceptance speech, Fonda, 87, reflected on her extensive career, expressing gratitude to SAG-AFTRA and describing herself as a “late bloomer.” She highlighted her unconventional journey, including a 15-year retirement and a return to acting at 65, leading to significant success in her 80s. Fonda also emphasized the importance of empathy in acting and the role of unions in fostering community and support among actors.
The event was not without technical difficulties; during Fonda’s speech, a pre-recorded announcer interrupted due to sound issues. Fonda handled the situation with humor, continuing her remarks undeterred.
Known for her advocacy, Fonda used her platform to encourage fellow actors to engage in social activism. She urged resistance against political injustices and highlighted the significance of unions in empowering workers. Fonda called for unity and empathy, stressing the need to listen to diverse perspectives to create a hopeful future.
Fashion-wise, Fonda departed from her usual menswear-inspired style, opting for a glamorous peach-colored sequin gown by Giorgio Armani Privé. She accessorized with a diamond choker, earrings, and an opal ring, marking a notable shift from her typical aesthetic.
