Devajit Saikia Succeeds Jay Shah as BCCI Secretary

A former Assam cricketer and lawyer Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), succeeding Jay Shah.

Saikia, 55, brings a diverse background in cricket, law, and administration to his new role. He played as a wicketkeeper-batsman for Assam in the early 1990s and has served as the Advocate General of Assam.

His appointment was confirmed during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting held in Mumbai, where he was elected unopposed. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was also elected unopposed as the new Treasurer, filling the vacancy left by Ashish Shelar.

Saikia‘s immediate responsibilities include addressing India’s recent performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, alongside BCCI President Roger Binny.
