AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi Dies from Accidental Gunshot at Ludhiana Residence

Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Ludhiana West in Punjab, tragically passed away from a gunshot wound on January 11, 2025.

The incident occurred around midnight at Gogi’s residence in Ludhiana. Family members reported hearing a gunshot and discovered him with a head injury. He was immediately transported to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where he was declared brought dead.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja stated that, according to family accounts, Gogi may have accidentally shot himself. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed following a thorough investigation and post-mortem examination.

Who was Gurpreet Gogi?

Gogi, aged 58, was a prominent figure in Punjab politics. He was elected as the MLA for Ludhiana West in 2022, defeating two-time MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Prior to joining AAP, he served as a municipal councillor in Ludhiana and held the position of District Congress Committee (Urban) president from 2014 to 2019.

He also served as the chairman of the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) from 2019 to 2022.

Gurpreet Gogi is survived by his wife, Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, and their two children. His sudden demise has left the community and his party members in deep shock.

Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to Gogi’s death. The post-mortem report is awaited to provide further clarity. Police officials, including Commissioner Kuldeep Chahal and Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, have been actively involved in the inquiry.
