Billionaire industrialist Yohan Poonawalla and his wife Michelle have made headlines with their recent acquisition of a sprawling 30,000 sq ft standalone property in South Mumbai’s prestigious Cuffe Parade area.
According to a report by The Economic Times, this opulent estate, valued at over ₹500 crore, is one of the most expensive residential purchases in recent times. The Poonawallas plan to convert this grand residence into their secondary home, aptly naming it the “Poonawalla Mansion.”

Yohan Poonawalla, the chairman of Poonawalla Engineering Group and a director at Poonawalla Stud Farms and Poonawalla Racing and Breeding, hails from one of India’s most influential business families. His father, Zavaray Poonawalla, co-founded the Serum Institute of India, which has become a global leader in vaccine manufacturing. The Poonawallas are also known for owning one of Asia’s largest and most prestigious stud farms.
Michelle Poonawalla, a successful businesswoman and the Managing Director of Poonawalla Engineering Companies, will spearhead the transformation of their new property through her design firm, MYP Design Studio. Under her direction, the property will be revitalized into a luxurious and exclusive residence, embodying the grandeur and elegance associated with the Poonawalla name.
The mansion’s expansive layout, complete with sweeping terraces and multiple floors, ensures privacy and exclusivity for the couple. The property will also serve as a showcase for their impressive art collection. Part of the mansion will be converted into a private art gallery to display Michelle Poonawalla’s distinctive oil paintings, alongside other valuable pieces from their collection.
Additionally, Yohan Poonawalla’s curated selection of classic automobiles will find a home within the mansion, adding to the estate’s allure.

South Mumbai has recently become a hotspot for celebrity property acquisitions, with several high-profile figures making significant purchases in the area.

Kohli secured a luxury apartment in Worli’s ‘Omkar 1973’ project for ₹34 crore, while Sharma bought a ₹30 crore property at Ahuja Towers, also in Worli. Yuvraj Singh acquired a property in the same neighborhood for ₹64 crore.
Film producer and director Dinesh Vijan has also joined the ranks of celebrity homeowners in South Mumbai, purchasing a 9,000 sq ft residential property. Other notable deals include Suhana Khan’s acquisition of 1.5 acres of agricultural land in Alibag for ₹12.91 crore and Alia Bhatt’s production house purchasing a 2,497 sq ft apartment in Bandra for ₹37.80 crore.
