Mohanlal Pledges Rs 3 Crore for Wayanad Landslide Rehabilitation in Army Uniform

Prominent actor Mohanlal, also serving as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army, arrived in landslide-stricken Wayanad on Saturday, dressed in his military uniform. He announced a donation of Rs three crore towards the rehabilitation efforts for the affected region.

At the Army camp in Meppadi, Mohanlal engaged in a brief discussion with the officers before heading to the landslide-affected areas. His visit included stops at Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattom, where he met with various rescue personnel, including Army members and local volunteers, to gauge the severity of the situation.

During a media interaction, Mohanlal emphasized that the full extent of the disaster could only be appreciated by seeing it in person. “The scale of the landslide becomes clear only when you witness it firsthand. The efforts by the Army, Navy, Air Force, NDRF, Fire and Rescue teams, and local organizations have been commendable,” he stated.

He highlighted that the 122 infantry battalion (TA) of the Indian Army, to which he belongs, was among the first responders to the disaster site.

Mohanlal also mentioned that the Vishwashanthi Foundation, with which he is associated, has pledged Rs three crore for the rehabilitation initiatives, with the possibility of additional funds if required.

Mohanlal was appointed as a Lieutenant Colonel in the territorial army in 2009.

Additionally, filmmaker Major Ravi, who accompanied Mohanlal, announced that the foundation will also take on the task of rebuilding the Mundakkayi school, which was severely damaged.
