On Tuesday, August 20, Lopez, 55, officially filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, just over two years after their July 2022 wedding, according to TMZ.

Lopez submitted the divorce papers to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, indicating April 26, 2024, as the date of separation. Representing herself without legal assistance, Lopez took this step on her own. Although they were married in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022, this filing came just after the second anniversary of their traditional ceremony held in Georgia.
There was no mention of a prenuptial agreement, and sources told TMZ that none exists. “She made a sincere effort to make the marriage work, and she’s devastated,” a source close to Lopez revealed. “Her children remain her top priority, as always.”
Lopez and Affleck’s relationship has been the subject of media attention since they reignited their romance in 2021, over 17 years after they first got engaged and postponed their planned September 2003 wedding. Their initial breakup happened in January 2004, but they stayed on good terms throughout the years.
After Lopez ended her engagement with former MLB player Alex Rodriguez in April 2021, she and Affleck began spending time together again. By July of that year, they made their relationship Instagram official and appeared together at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.

In April 2022, a representative for Lopez confirmed their engagement. They surprised fans with a Las Vegas wedding on July 16, 2022, followed by a grander celebration in Georgia a month later. The guest list included friends like Matt Damon, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, and Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell. Jay Shetty, a well-known podcaster and life coach, officiated the ceremony.
Lopez, who shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, was married to him from 2004 to 2014. Affleck, on the other hand, was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018, and they have three children together: 18-year-old Violet Anne, 15-year-old Seraphina Rose, and 12-year-old Samuel.
Most recently, Lopez and Affleck collaborated on her Prime Video musical documentary This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, which was released in February alongside her album of the same name. However, rumors of marital issues began circulating in May, with reports suggesting that they had spent time apart. While Lopez promoted her movie Atlas, attended the 2024 Met Gala, and prepared for her upcoming tour, Affleck remained in Los Angeles to work on The Accountant 2.
Multiple sources reported in May that Lopez and Affleck were no longer living together in their Los Angeles home. Although they attended various events together in the spring, a source noted that their differing personalities and approaches to public life made day-to-day life challenging.
During the summer, the couple spent much of their time on opposite sides of the country. Lopez was in the Hamptons, New York, for an extended stay that included the Fourth of July, their second wedding anniversary, and her 55th birthday, while Affleck stayed in Los Angeles.

After Lopez returned to Los Angeles in August, a source mentioned that she “hadn’t seen Ben for weeks” and that the couple is “moving on separately.”
