The Paris Olympics 2024 will officially begin with a landmark Opening Ceremony on the River Seine on Friday, July 26, featuring participation from India. This marks the start of 16 days of high-level competition across 32 sports disciplines.

The procession will commence at Austerlitz Bridge and end at Trocadéro, near the Eiffel Tower. The event will include performances and Olympic protocol elements during the parade.

Leading the Indian team in the Parade of Nations will be PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, and table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal, competing in his fifth Olympics. They are the first athletes from their respective sports to bear India’s flag at the Olympic Opening Ceremony. India will be represented by 112 athletes competing in 69 events across 16 sports, with five reserve athletes also present.
During the ceremony, the Indian contingent will wear outfits designed by Tarun Tahiliani, featuring kurta bundi sets for men and matching saris for women, inspired by traditional ikat prints and Banarasi brocade in the colors of the Indian flag.

The parade begins at Austerlitz Bridge, near the Jardin des Plantes, following the Seine River through central Paris, passing under several bridges and gateways. Athletes will see key Olympic venues along the route, including La Concorde Urban Park and the Grand Palais.
The parade concludes at Iena Bridge, connecting the Eiffel Tower to the Trocadéro district. The ceremony’s finale at the Trocadéro will feature opening remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron and other ceremonial activities.
